Marine photography by Terry Dormer

Our latest contributor to the NHM Picture Library is Terry Dormer, who recently provided us with over 200 underwater marine images.

Terry trained as a diver in the 1980s with the founding branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (London No.1), of which he remains a member. His work for the Commonwealth Secretariat took him to many countries where, during his free time, he was sometimes able to visit the local dive sites. He describes this as being always fascinating, often exciting and occasionally challenging.

Cassiopeia andromeda

Flatworm (Thysanozoon flavomaculatum)
Amphiprion percula, clownfish
Caranx sexfasciatus
Xenocarcinus conicus, spider crab

Since his retirement, he has continued to explore the underwater world. During the last three years, he has been to the Galapagos once, Indonesia twice and the Red Sea eight times. Most of the 200 plus  images were obtained on these trips, using a film camera. His transparencies have been scanned without cropping or any other modifications.
