English zoologist and botanist, Dr. George Kearsley Shaw (1751-1813) was a co-founder and vice-president of the Linnean Society of London, a fellow of the Royal Society, and Keeper of the British Museum's natural history department 1807-1813. English naturalist, Sir Ashton Lever (1729-1788) was bankrupted by his collection of 28,000 specimens, which was won in a lottery by Dr. James Parkinson (1755-1824), catalogued by Shaw and later auctioned.
