| | The Burgess Shale is a fossil-bearing rock formation created over 500 million years ago by a huge mud slide located in British Columbia, Canada. These shales contain more than 120 species of marine invertebrate fossils and are also one of the worlds most important fossil sites and are of UNESCO World Heritage status.
